# How can I add formatting to my Narratives?

Rich text adds a way to more easily find specific information within a narrative, thereby enhancing collaboration between team members. It is now possible to bold**,** underline, italicise, and create both bulleted and numbered lists.

We then strip out all of the formatting before submitting to the FIU to conform to specifications for the Suspicious Activity Report.

### How is it used?

First, your organization must be configured to use the functionality. Once you are configured, there are three ways to apply formatting:

1. **Use the formatting bar**\
At the top of the narrative area, there will be a format bar. By selecting one of the formats, all text entered afterwards will have formatting applied. Click the formatting button again to turn off.\

2. **Highlight a word**\
By highlighting a word, a format panel will pop up adjacently. Select your formatting and it will be applied.\
 ![](/files/SvdrJlpa0IuqvHXWlMyL)
3. **Use key commands**\
Familiar key commands, such as `cmd+b` for bold will work.

We also have a toggle below the narrative field to turn off formatting and view as plain text.
